The Kings County Mounted Enforcement Unit (MEU) serves as an asset for the Kings County Sheriff’s Office. The Mounted Patrol Unit can supplement patrol operations, crowd control, river patrol, search and rescue and community-oriented events.

 The goal of the Kings County Sheriff Mounted Unit is to patrol assigned areas on horseback to enforce laws, prevent crimes and aid other units within the Kings County and neighboring jurisdictions as requested. The MEU Deputies strive to promote with the public an atmosphere of safety and approachability.

The Mounted Patrol Unit provides the following:

• Utilize proactive enforcement techniques to apprehend people who violate the law 
• Establish high visibility of law enforcement presence to reduce criminal activity
• Provide presence at special events, including but not limited to parades, festivals, and organized demonstrations
• Provide support for community events and special beat projects
• Utilize the horse after natural disasters or when vehicle access is hindered.
• Promote positive communications and interactions with members of the community
• Promote connections with local educational institutions and develop youth educational opportunities
