Marriage Licenses & Ceremonies
Important Notice:
While the marriage license application can be started online, both parties MUST be present in our office in order to complete the application process.
Marriage Licenses
Marriage licenses can be applied for online at one of the following link.
The fee for a marriage license is $87.00 and is payable with cash, check, money order, or card.
In order to be issued a marriage license, you must be age 18 or over, and provide an acceptable form of photo identification (Driver's License, Matricula, Passport, etc.)
Both parties must be present in order to complete the application.
If you were previously married, you must know the date your previous marriage ended.
You must know the FULL BIRTH name of both of your parents as listed on THEIR birth certificate.
Marriage licenses issued in Kings County are valid for marriage ceremonies performed anywhere in the State of California, and are valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.
Marriage Ceremonies
Marriage ceremonies are performed by the Clerk - Recorder on Thursdays by appointment only. The first appointment of the day is available at 9:00 a.m., and the last ceremony appointment is at at 3:30 p.m.
There is a non-refundable ceremony fee of $45.00 payable by cash, check, money order, or card that is due prior to the scheduling of the ceremony.
You must bring at least one witness for the ceremony that is 18 years of age or older. If you do not have a witness, we can provide one for you for an additional $15.00 fee.
You need to arrive 15 minutes BEFORE your scheduled appointment time to allow for preparation of the paperwork. You may schedule an appointment online by clicking below.
To request an appointment for a civil ceremony please complete the form below and email it to ClerkRecorder@co.kings.ca.us or call our office during normal business hours at (559) 852-2470. Your ceremony is not scheduled until it is confirmed by office staff.

Volunteer Deputy Marriage Commissioner Program
The Kings County Clerk/Recorder offers an opportunity to have selected volunteers appointed to perform marriage ceremonies. This is a special volunteer opportunity to serve the community as a Deputy Marriage Commissioner at the County Government Center.
Once approval has been granted, training and instructions for completing marriage licenses, sample wedding vows, and a copy of the commission will be provided. For more information, please click here.

Commissioner for One Day Program
The Kings County Clerk/Recorder offers an opportunity to have a special friend or family member appointed to perform a marriage ceremony. This is a one-event appointment.
