UPDATE: Effective December 24, 2025, the USPS will treat the machine-applied postmark date as: “The date of the first automated processing operation at a USPS processing facility.”
The official “postmark date” under the new rule could be later than the actual mailing date. The new USPS rule outlines these methods to ensure a postmark is on the date of delivery:
IN ORDER TO AVOID LATE PROPERTY TAX PAYMENT PENALTIES:
- Request a Manual Postmark: USPS customers may present a mail piece at a retail counter and request a “manual (local) postmark”. This postmark is applied at the time of acceptance, so the date aligns with the date the USPS took possession.
- Postage Validation Imprint (PVI): When a customer pays for postage at a retail counter, the PVI label applied by the employee also indicates the date of acceptance
- Certificates of Mailing: Customers may purchase a Certificate of Mailing, or use Registered or Certified Mail, to obtain a receipt that serves as evidence of the date the item was presented for mailing

Payments
Payments can be made online, over the phone, mailed or delivered to our office. If you have been identified as a taxpayer whose tax payments equal or exceed an aggregate payment of $50,000.00, YOU ARE LEGALLY REQUIRED to pay by EFT.
Property tax payments must be received or postmarked by the delinquency date in order to avoid penalties.
It is the property owner's responsibility to see that all property tax payments are made timely. Failure to receive a tax bill, in no way relieves the property owner of the responsibility of paying the property taxes when they become due and payable. Additional property tax information is provided on the secured and unsecured tax pages.
The Tax Collector now has drop boxes available for your convenience. One drop box is located in the parking lot behind the Tax Collector's Office and the other one is located in the courtyard in front of the Tax Collector's office adjacent to the front door. Please DO NOT place cash in either of the drop boxes. We accept checks, cashier's checks or money orders in the drop box. Be sure to place your payment and installment payment stub(s) in an envelope.
