Missed the deadline to Register to Vote?

You can still register using the Conditional Voter Registration (CVR) process and vote a provisional ballot. Conditional Voter Registration begins two weeks before Election Day.

What's the process?

  • Either at the Elections Office or at our Vote Centers, you will be asked to register to vote by filling out a Voter Registration form.
  • You will also be given an Orange Conditional Ballot Envelope. Be sure to complete the front side of the envelope as well. If this is not complete, or if the orange envelope is not signed, we will be unable to process your ballot. Your Voter Registration form however will be processed.
  • Next, you will be given a ballot to mark or directed to a ballot marking device to make your selections.  You will place your completed ballot into an Orange Envelope. The orange envelope will then be sealed and dropped into the ballot box for processing. Be sure that your registration card is placed in the pouch on the back of the envelope.
  • Once your eligibility to cast a ballot is verified, your provisional ballot will be counted.
  • You can check your ballot status online or by contacting the Elections Office at 1-559-852-4401 or 1-800-289-9981 ext. 4401

What if I am a Military voter, Overseas voter, unable to physically make it to a vote center, or am out of the area and want to still vote in Kings County?

We can help you out with Remote Conditional Voter Registration.

What's the process?

Step 1 - Verify your voter registration status.

If you are already registered to vote but have not received a ballot or a link to your ballot marking session using the Remote Accessible Vote-by-Mail System (RAVBM), please contact our office so that we can assist you.

Step 2 - Register to Vote Online.

  • Click here to register online. Please make note of the affidavit number provided to you at the end of the registration session. This will help us locate your voter profile faster.
  • If you do not have a California ID or Driver's License, you will need to print out, sign and mail the registration form to our office for processing.
  • You must provide a valid e-mail address at the time of registration. This will be used to send you a link to your voting session later on.
  • While not required, if you do not provide identification at the time of registration (Driver's License / California ID number or the last 4 of your social security number) you will be asked to provide proof of identification to the Elections Office before we are allowed to process your ballot. Please click here to learn about the first-time federal voter requirements.

Step 3 - Notify our office that you wish to vote via the Remote Conditional Voter Registration Process.

  • Per state regulations, in order for our office to process your conditional voter registration remotely, you must notify us. Please call our office at 1(559)852-4401or 1-800-289-9981 ext. 4401 or you can send an email to elections@countyofkings.com.  Providing your affidavit number from earlier will help expedite the process.

Step 4 - Complete the RAVBM voting session and mail your ballot to us.

  • Once your registration has been processed, we will email you a link to a secure ballot marking session. Please check your email and spam folder for an email containing the link. Follow the instructions to complete your ballot marking session, print out the ballot and all other documents and return them via fax, postal mail, ballot drop box, or drop off at the office or vote center. We cannot accept emailed ballots. Ballots dropped off must be either dropped off in person by the close of polls on Election Day, faxed back to the office by the close of polls on Election Day, or mailed back to the Elections Office with the envelope postmarked by Election Day. Ballots returned by mail have 7 additional days to make it back to the office but must have a postmark on or before Election Day to be processed.

If you have any questions about this process, or any questions about the election in general, feel free to contact our office.
