Click here for In Person Voting information.

Every properly registered voter in Kings County will be mailed a Vote-by-Mail ballot 29 days before Election Day for elections they are qualified to vote in.

Delivery of the mailed ballot depends on your local mail service. BallotTrax, a free ballot tracking and alert system, is available to voters who wish to track the status of their Vote by Mail ballots - from printed to accepted. You will receive updates about your ballot via text message, e-mail, or phone call.  Sign up using the link provided below or contact the Elections Office for assistance.  Elections staff can help voters sign up for this service, even if they do not have access to a computer or the internet.

If you do not receive your ballot within the 14 days before Election Day, if you make a mistake on your ballot, or if you need a replacement, you may:

Voting by Mail is Easy!

  1. Vote your ballot by filling in the oval next to your choice.  Be sure to use a blue or black ink pen.

  2. Put your voted ballot inside the postage-paid return envelope.

  3. Sign and date the return envelope between the hole punches.  Important: In order for your ballot to count, we must match your signature on the return envelope with the signature in your voter registration record.

    • If you cannot sign your name and have no other legal mark that you use in place of signing your name, make an “X” or other simple mark, if possible, on the signature line of your Vote-by-Mail return envelope. You must have another person write your name near your mark and then sign as a witness on the appropriate line on the Vote-by-Mail return envelope. The person witnessing your mark must be at least 18 years old. The Elections Department highly recommends that you complete a new Voter Registration Form using your new mark as your signature to eliminate the need for a witness signature.

You may use an approved signature stamp to sign your election documents. For more information about using a signature stamp, please call (559) 852-4401 / 1-800-289-9981 ext. 4401 or e-mail elections@countyofkings.com.

  4. Seal the envelope. No postage is necessary.

Return Your Ballot

Don't delay! Once you vote your ballot and properly sign the envelope, you need to return it on time.  Here's how:

  • Drop it off in the mail - If you wait until Election Day to return you ballot via mail, walk it up to the counter and request the mail clerk to postmark it with the current date.
  • Drop it off at any Ballot Drop Box Location.
  • Drop it off at any Vote Center Location.

Remember, all Vote-by-Mail ballot must be Postmarked by Election Day or returned to any Ballot Drop Box or Vote Center by 8:00 P.M on Election Day. Mailed ballots must be received no later than 7 days after Election Day to be considered delivered on time.

Received a Notice or letter about your ballot being challenged?

No worries. Part of the Vote-by-Mail ballot acceptance process is the Signature Check/Verification portion. This step ensures that someone else can't attempt to cast your ballot without you knowing. We match the signature on the return envelope with that from your most recent voter registration. If your signature has changed since you last registered to vote, we recommend re-registering with an updated signature.

If we can't match your signature, or if you forgot to sign the ballot return envelope, you'll receive a letter asking you to correct the issue. California Law requires the letter be sent on or before the next business day after making the determination. If you've signed up for BallotTrax, you'll receive a message via your preferred method.

Simply complete the form with the signature of your most recent registration (usually that which is on your California ID or Drivers License)  and return it in the included pre-addressed, postage paid envelope.

If you received a notice from BallotTrax and don't want to wait for the letter to arrive in the mail, please use the blank form provided below. Be sure to fill out all the requested information and then return it to our office.
