CITY OF HANFORD TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY SALES TAX MEASURE

The Hanford City Council has placed Measure T, a proposed amendment of Hanford Municipal Code Chapter 3.24, on the June 2, 2026, ballot. If approved by the voters, Measure T will amend Hanford Municipal Code Chapter 3.24 to increase the City's existing transient occupancy tax ("TOT") rate from eight percent (8%) to twelve percent (12%).

TOT is paid by visitors who stay at hotels, motels, inns, or other short-term rentals in the City for thirty (30) days or less.

TOT is levied as a percentage of the amount paid by a visitor for a stay at a hotel, motel, inn, or other short-term rental.

It is projected that the proposed TOT rate increase will initially generate an additional $375,000.00 annually for the City.

The City's TOT is a "general tax," and, therefore, if the TOT rate increase is approved, the additional TOT funds generated by the increase may be utilized for any purpose for which the City's general fund monies may be used, including, without limitation: police, fire, parks and recreation, maintaining public infrastructure such as streets, sidewalks, parks and facilities, and general government use.

A "Yes" vote is a vote in favor of the proposed TOT rate increase from the existing eight percent (8%) rate to twelve percent (12%).

A "No" vote is a vote against the proposed TOT rate increase and would leave the TOT rate at the existing eight percent (8%) rate.

The Measure will be approved if it receives a simple majority (greater than 50%) of "Yes" votes.

The above statement is an impartial analysis of Measure T. If you desire a copy of the Measure, call the City Clerk's Office at (559) 585-2515 and a copy will be mailed at no cost to you.
