12/11/2025 - 02/04/2026

Signatures in-lieu Period. During this period, petition forms may be obtained, circulated, and filed to secure signatures in-lieu of all or a portion of the filing fee. Signatures submitted on the in-lieu petitions may also be applied to the signature requirements for offices on the nominating petition. Candidates will be notified of any deficiency within 10 calendar days of filing the petition. Candidates must, prior to the close of the nomination period, pay the pro rata portion of the filing fee to make up the deficiency, and/or difference.

12/19/2025 - 02/04/2026

Special Signatures in-lieu Period. (Applicable to United States Representative Districts Only) During this period, petition forms may be obtained, circulated, and filed to secure signatures in-lieu of all or a portion of the filing fee. Signatures submitted on the in-lieu petitions may also be applied to the signature requirements for offices on the nominating petition. Candidates will be notified of the outstanding balance by the Secretary of State's Office. Candidates must, prior to the close of the nomination period, pay the pro rata portion of the filing fee to make up the deficiency, and/or difference.

01/26/2026 - 02/04/2026 

Declaration of Intention - Judicial Office Candidates only. The first and last day for candidates for judicial office to file the Declaration of Intention. The candidate filing fee must be paid, or signatures in-lieu petitions must be filed at the time the Declaration of Intention is filed. (E.C. §§ 8023 and 8105(b))

02/04/2026 

Signatures in-lieu deadline. Last day for candidates to file signature in-lieu petitions. Candidates will be
notified of any deficiency within 10 calendar days of filing the petition. Candidates must then, prior to the close of the nomination period, pay the pro rata portion of the filing fee to make up the deficiency. Any Signatures In-Lieu petitions turned in after this date will not be valid for nomination requirements.

02/05/2026 - 02/09/2025

Extension of Declaration of Intent (Judicial Offices only).  If the incumbent for a judicial office does not file a declaration of intention to succeed to the same office by February 4, qualified persons other than the incumbent may file a declaration of intention for that office no later than the first day for filing nomination papers.

02/09/2026 - 03/06/2026

Nomination Period. During this period, candidates must file declarations of candidacy and nomination papers. No person may file nomination papers for more than one office at the same election. The declaration of candidacy shall be executed in the Elections Office. All candidates must pay the non-refundable filing fees. A candidate shall not be required to execute a nomination paper if the number of in-lieu signatures that meets the nomination requirement on the in-lieu petitions equals or exceeds the minimum number required. Fax and email submission is not accepted.

Candidate Statements - Local Nonpartisan Candidates. During this period, candidates for a local nonpartisan office may file a candidate statement for inclusion with the Official Voter Information Guide. Payment, a signed printed copy of the statement, and a digital copy of the statement are required to be presented to the Elections Office at the time you are given your Declaration of Candidacy.

Candidate Statements - Congressional and State Legislative Candidates. During this period, candidates for Congressional and State Legislative Office may submit a statement for inclusion in the Official Voter Information Guide. State legislative candidates must agree to voluntarily limit their campaign expenditures. The statement shall not exceed 250 words. If the office is to be voted on in more than one county, candidates will also file the candidate statement with each county.

NOTE: Candidate statements are ONLY included in the Official Voter Information Guide and will NOT be included in any Vote-by-Mail material.

Consolidation of Elections. Last day for local jurisdictions to file a resolution with the Board of Supervisors and Elections Official requesting consolidation (including placement of a measure on the ballot) with the Primary Election.

03/07/2026 - 03/11/2026

Nomination Period Extension - Incumbent Fails to file.  
If nomination documents for any eligible incumbent are not filed by March 6, 5:00 p.m., the nomination period for such office shall be extended until March 11, 5:00 p.m. for persons other than the incumbent.

NOTE: Extension period does not apply when:
1) the incumbent for judicial office does not file a declaration of intention for the office.
2) there is no incumbent eligible to be elected or the incumbent has served the maximum number of terms as permitted by the California Constitution.
3) the office in question is for county central committee.

03/07/2026 - 03/16/2026

Public Examination Period for Candidate Statements, Candidate Names, and Ballot Designations. 

 During this period, candidate statements, candidate names and ballot designations shall be open for public examination. A $3.50 fee, per page will charged to any candidate/person obtaining a copy of the material. During this period, any person may file a writ of mandate or an injunction to require any or all of the material in a candidate statement to be amended or deleted.

03/12/2025

Randomized Alphabet Draw by the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State shall hold a public drawing to determine order of candidate names on the ballot by randomly drawing each letter of the alphabet.
(E.C. § 13112)

Randomized Alphabet Draw by the Registrar of Voters. A public drawing shall be held to determine the order of candidate names on the ballot for state legislative districts that encompass more than one county by randomly drawing each letter of the alphabet.
(E.C. § 13111(i))

03/16/2025

Petition to Conduct a Write-In Campaign (Judicial Office) Last day to file petitions containing signatures of at least 100 registered voters in the county to place office on the Primary Election ballot when only the incumbent has filed for the office.

04/06/2026 - 05/19/2026 

Statement of Write-In Candidate Declaration Period. A name written on a ballot will not be counted unless the person has filed during this period a statement of write-in candidacy and sponsor signatures, if applicable, stating that he or she is a write-in candidate for the election.

04/18/2026

Military and Overseas Balots. Last day for the County Elections Official to transmit ballots and balloting materials to absent military or overseas voters who have requested them by this date.
(E.C. § 3114)

05/04/2026

Mailing of Vote-By-Mail Ballots. No later than 29 days before the day of the election, the County Elections
Official shall begin mailing the materials required by Section 3010.
(E.C. §§ 3001, and 3010)

Processing of Vote-By-Mail Ballots. The processing of Vote-by-Mail ballots may commence on the 29th day before the election but the results of the tally shall not be released until after 8 p.m. on Election Day.
(E.C. § 15101)

In Person Voting. In person voting opportunities will be available at the County Elections Office beginning this day. 

Ballot Drop Boxes Open. 11 Ballot Drop Boxes will be available throughout the county for voter use. 

05/18/2026  Close of Registration. Last day to transfer or register to vote in the election.
(E.C. § 2102)
05/19/2026  Write-In Candidate Statement Deadline. Last day for a candidate to file a statement of write-in candidacy and sponsor signatures, if applicable, that he or she is a write-in candidate for the election.

05/23/2026  Vote Center - First Day.  A Vote Center will be open beginning 10 days prior to election day. Vote Center Operation Hours and Locations are available in your Vote Information Guide included with your Vote-by-Mail Packet. A VCA election may be conducted pursuant to E.C. § 4005(a)(4)).
05/30/2026  All Vote Centers Open. Remaining Vote Centers will open and continue operations through Election Day. Please see your Voter Information Guide, included with your Vote-by-Mail packet for locations and hours. 
06/02/2026 - Election Day

All Vote Centers will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM unless otherwise instructed by court order. 

All Ballot Drop Boxes will be closed promptly at 8:00 PM unless otherwise instructed by court order. 

Last Day to Mail your ballot. Ballots must have a date stamp on or before election day and received by our office no later than the close of business on 06/09/2026 for them to be counted.

Semi-Official Canvass. The semi-official canvass of the vote will begin after polls close at 8:00 PM unless otherwise instructed by Court Order. The initial results of ballots counted will be posted at 8:05 with updates to follow every 2 hours until all in-person ballots have been counted. Please note that these are not final results. 

06/04/2026 to 07/02/2026 

Official Canvass of the Vote. The official canvass of the vote begins and will be worked on at minimum 6 hours daily until completed, excluding weekends and holidays. Activities of the official canvass include: processing of outstanding Vote-by-Mail ballots, processing of Conditional and Provisional ballots received, the 1% manual tally audit, and other activities.  

Certification of the Election. The Registrar of Voters is to certify the results of the election, creating an official record of the votes casted and winners on the races.
